Noun 1 は noun 2 が adjective です。
This sentence pattern is used to describe an attribute of a thing or
person. The topic of the sentence is denoted by は. Noun 1 is the topic
of the sentence and noun 2 is the subject of the adjective's description.
- イタリア は たべもの が おいしい です。 - Food is tasty in Italy
- エマ さん は かみ が ながい です。 - Emma has long hair.
Connecting adjectives
When joining an い adjective sentence to another sentence, take away the
い from the い adjective, and attach くて.

- マーク さん は わかくて ハンサム です。 - Marc is young and hansome.
- きのう は てんき が よくて あつかった です。- Yesterday it was fine and hot.
When joining noun sentences or な adjective sentences です is changed to で.

- マーク さん は ハンサム で しんせつ です。 - Marc is handome and kind.
- エマ さん は イギリス 人 で ロンドン 大学 の 学生 です。- Emma is English, and a student
of London University.
- きょうと は しずか で きれいな まち です。Kyoto is a quiet and beautiful city.
Note that this method cannot connect sentences of contradictory notions.
In that case, が is used.
この へや は せまくて、きれいです。
この へや は せまい です が、 きれい です。- This room is small but clean
