Plain form + し ~
- When sentences are stated from a certain viewpoint, they can be
linked using this structure. For instance, sentences describing the merits
of a particular subject are joined into one sentence using this pattern.
- 田中先生は ねっしんだし、まじめだし、けえけん も あります。- Professor Tanaka is earnest and
dilligent and has experience.
- This structure is also used to state causes or reasons when there
is more than one cause or reason. Use of this structure implies the meaning
of 'furthermore' or 'on top of that'.
- えきから ちかいし、 車も とめられるし、 この うち は とても べんり です。- This house is very convenient.
It's near the station and you can also park your car.
When the speaker states reasons using this pattern, they sometimes does
not say their conclusions when it's clear from the context.
- 私の子ども に すうがく を おしえて いただけません か。- Could you teach maths to my children?
- うーん、 しゅっちょう も おおい し、 日本語のテスト も ある し。。。- Sorry, I often go on business
trips and I have to take a Japanese exam...
それに & それで
それに is used when you add another similar fact or situation. それで is a conjunction
used to show that what was said before is the reason or cause of the sentence
following it.
- どうして この うち を えらんだん ですか。- Why did you choose this house?
- この うち は やすいち、 大きし、それに えきから ちかい ですから。- This house is cheap, big and
besides it's near the station.
- このレストラン は やすいし、 おいしいんです。- This restaurant is inexpensive and tasty
- それで人が おおいんです。- And that's why it's crowded.
