Giving & Receiving
To give is 上げます (あげます), and to recieve is 貰います (もらいます)。Both the giver and
reciever are given at the beginning of the sentence, connected using は, then
に followed by the noun which has been given or recieved, then the を particle,
and ending with the verb.
- 田中 さん は マーク さん に 本 を あげます。- Tanaka gives Marc a book.
- マーク さん は 田中 さん から/に 本 を もらいます。- Marc recieved a book from Tanaka.
- たんじょうび に 田中 さん から 本 を もらいました。 - (I) recieved a book from Tanaka for
my birthday.
As above, からor に may be used to indicate 'from'.
